Sylvia Leona Cairns is now resting in peace in her saviors kingdom. Sylvia was born July 15, 1913 in Lenox, Iowa to Tom and Laura (Eckles) Symonds. She was raised and lived in Iowa where she became a medical secretary. Sylvia moved to southern California in 1960 when both of her daughters moved there. She retired in Fallon in 1978 where her oldest daughter was living.

She enjoyed family, gardening, animals, fishing, traveling and a card game now and then. She was also very active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was a church clerk first in California and then in Nevada. Sylvia with her warm smile, will be deeply missed by her family and all those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ernest (Florence), Raymond (Francis) and Everett; two sisters, Mae (Ralph) Case and Iola (Len) Steele and granddaughter, Rhonda Jo McDowell. Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Judi (Jim) Curran, and Joyce (Patrick) Carr; grandchildren, Leanne (Chico) Turrietta, Laura (Terry) Rowe, Cindy (Ed) Sandefer, Debbie (Bill) Sanders, Robert McDowell, Larry (Janera) Tucker, Suzie (J.D.) Countryman; 15 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 3 p.m. at The Gardens Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home, 2949 Austin Highway, Fallon, NV 89406, (775) 423-8928.
