It wouldn't be right if the Lady Wave volleyball team had no all-league selections after a turnaround season.
After losing every league game last year, Fallon bounced back this season to earn a berth to the regional tournament. As a result, seniors Alyssa Meihack and Kenyah Brown and junior Caitlynn Marsh were named to the All-Sierra Nevada Media Group teams. Both seniors were first-team selections, while Marsh picked up second-team honors.
“I wish it was recognition for all of the kids on the team,” Fallon coach Patty Daum said. “Those three kids represent what Fallon volleyball is. They're absolutely hard workers and wonderful to coach. They're just class acts. They're great representation of what this crew is this year.”
Meihack, who missed last season with a knee injury, came back this season in good form. She was the team's best server with a 0.9 average in aces and she also led in digs with a 2.8 average and 5.1 assist average.
“She's just every coach's dream,” Daum said of Meihack. “She's the kid who comes along every once in a while and makes what coaching should be about. She's just everything a coach needs and wants, not only as a player but as a person. She's pretty incredible.”
Fellow senior Brown led the team in offense with a 1.6 game average in kills and also did damage defensively. Brown, who also starts for the basketball team, had a 0.7 blocking average.
“Kenyah, I'm very proud of,” Daum said. “She worked hard this year. She just became a leader on the court. I don't think that's skill she thought she had. It evolved with her as a player.”
Marsh was just as effective on offense as she finished with a 1.5 kill average. Marsh returns next season for her final year and will be looked to as one of the leaders to helping Fallon reach the playoffs for consecutive seasons.
“I don't know what to say about that kid,” Daum said. “I think the world of her not just as a player but as a person. She's what Fallon is for tomorrow; she really is.”
