The Greenwave wrestling team won four of five at the Capital Duals Saturday in Carson.
The host Senators won the tournament, while Fallon finished fifth. The Greenwave hosts Damonte Ranch tonight at 6 p.m. in the first league match of the season. Fallon also hosts the Stockman's/Wilkens Tournament on Saturday.
Forfeits didn't play into a disadvantage for the Greenwave, until they met Lowry in their only loss of the one-day tournament. Fallon, which forfeited four weight classes in each contest, still dominated its four wins by pinning its opponents quickly.
Fallon 46, North Valleys 30
Fallon came out on top of North Valleys thanks to seven pins. Parker Jones (112 pounds), Colin Merkley (125), Frank de Braga (130), Anthony Reibsamen (135), Nick Borovac (145), Charlie Heck (152) and Hayden Buckmaster (285) each recorded pins. Chandler Knight (140) won by decision (4-2) and Zerek Sanchez won by major decision (160). All but one pin were made in the first period, while Buckmaster pinned his opponent in the third.
Fallon 49, Fernley 30
Fallon had no trouble beating its rival after pinning the first four Vaqueros.
Fernley had one legitimate win, the rest forfeits, when Hazyn McGrath pinned Borovac in the first round. The Greenwave continued its pinning ways with Merkley, de Braga, Reibsamen and Knight recording consecutive pins to open the contest. Sanchez and Jones each won by pinfall, as well, while Heck beat Cody Crader, 3-2, and Hector Anaya (119) won by major decision, 10-1.
Lowry 57, Fallon 24
The forfeits took a hit against the Greenwave, unlike its four wins at the tournament.
Coupled with 24 free points, the Buckaroos swept the middle weights. Fallon's four wins came from pinfall, including Buckmaster, Anaya, Merkley and de Braga. Both teams were tied after de Braga's win, but Lowry won the next five matches before picking up a forfeit win.
Fallon 59, Spanish Springs 24
If it weren't for the forfeits, the Greenwave would have had a strong chance at blanking the Cougars.
Everyone picked up a win — all by pinfall except de Braga, who recorded a 17-2 major decision. After Buckmaster and Jones each won to tie the match at 12, Fallon won eight in a row before losing the final two matches to forfeits.
Fallon 45, Douglas 27
The Tigers were no match for the Greenwave as Fallon never trailed.
Fallon lost only two non-forfeit matches — Anaya, 5-1, and Borovac in a first-round pin. Aside from Merkley's 7-6 overtime win, Fallon pinned all of their opponents in the first round, except for Buckmaster, who pinned Patrick Miller in third round.
