An 18-year-old Fernley man was arrested on Wednesday for his participation in numerous burglaries around town.
Police Chief Kevin Gehman said Cody Wayne Simper, formerly of Fallon, was taken into custody in Reno by authorities late Wednesday night. Simper had three outstanding warrants, two of which were for burglary (two counts) principle to burglary, uttering a forged instrument (two counts) and grand larceny.
The third warrant was a Churchill County Sheriff's Department warrant for burglary. Simper's bail is $45,000. However, according to the Justice Court, Simper's bail was reduced to $1,000 and he posted bond.
“It was Doreen's (Desert Rose) and Daisy Mae's. He was part of that crew, though, I don't know which locations he was at specifically,” Gehman said.
Gehman said Simper was part of the burglaries that targeted Doreen's Desert Rose, Daisy Mae's and possibly other businesses. Gehman said tips from residents helped lead police to Simper's location, where he was arrested.
“We got some phone calls from people once we released the picture and the name,” Gehman said. “There was some assistance from other agencies to locate him.”
According to Gehman, Simper does not have any arrests pending, though, he noted other law enforcement agencies may have issued warrants that are still pending.
Gehman said warrants for Simper were issued a few weeks ago, though, he avoided authorities until Wednesday. Simper was arraigned Thursday and is scheduled for a status hearing Dec. 10.
