Elmer Riley Smith passed away in Fallon on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 after a long illness. He was born on a farm near Altas, Okla. on March 5, 1924. He moved to Nevada in the mid thirties with his family living in Sparks, Nev. until moving to Fallon in 2000. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and married his wife, Mary in 1945. He ran a service station, an auto repair shop and many other business's until his retirement in the mid 1970's.
Elmer was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years in 2005; his parents, William C. Smith and Suzie E. Smith; sister, Laura Schmidt and brother, Leon Smith.
He is survived by his sons, Gary (Denise) Smith of Fallon, Chris (Michelle) Smith of Chandler, Okla.; two grandsons, Paul and Patrick Smith; two great-grandsons, Leo and Kyle Smith, all of LaGrande, Ore.; sisters, Madeline McClelland, De Etta Berg, and Wanda Steffen of Sparks and brother, Clarence Smith of Reno.
No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home.
