READER UPSET WITH WOMAN'S SENTENCE

Editor:

In regards to Friday's (Nov. 20) front-page story, “Woman involved in fatal DUI pleads no contest,” I am outraged that Mrs. Larnin could “get off” with only two years to serve if the minimal sentence is passed. I

just would like the judge and jury to know that there are one hundred and thirty local men and over five thousand men state wide who will be paying very close attention to this sentencing. Guy Regan may not have any local family, but he was a brother to each of us in the Knights of Columbus.

Guy was a very ambitious man who had everything to live for when his life was terminated by Mrs. Larnin who admits to having no recollection at the time of the accident due to being under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana, her BAC was between .14 and .18.

I was the “Grand Knight” at the time of Guy's death and was shocked at his sudden and untimely death. If the judge and jury could have been present at his funeral and tried to console his family they would understand my outrage.

I plan on attending the sentencing hearing on Jan. 26, hopefully to see Justice served and Mrs. Larnin put away for a very long term for killing my friend.

NEVADANS CONCERN WITH HEALTH CARE

Editor:

Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats appear to be following the Cloward-Piven Strategy of Orchestrated Crisis to destroy America. Load up America with so much spending you break its back and bankrupt the country. This is how the Left forces major changes. This is the doctrine of Obama and his supporters. This is how you destroy America as we know it.

The 2,074 page Senate healthcare bill is out and Reid is driving for a vote Saturday night. What happened to an open process, minority party participation, 72 hours to read the bill?

Those promises were all lies. We do not need or want more big government. We cannot afford any more entitlements. Social Security and Medicare are already broke — how can we possibly think of adding on more? The Chinese will not finance even higher deficits. We do not want redistribution of wealth disguised as healthcare reform. No to taxing health products manufacturers and destroying their competitiveness and jobs. No to forcing 30 million new “insureds” into the healthcare system at the same time every doctor that can retire will retire.

How can cutting $400 billion out of MediCare save it? How can you justify adding huge cost burdens to the states for expanded Medicaid when the states are already just about bankrupt, especially Nevada? Government run health care and forcing Americans to buy health insurance are not Constitutional.

Sen. Harry Reid recognizes no Constitutional limits whatsoever on the authority of Congress and is therefore in breach of his oath of office. He is in breach and must step down.

Contact Harry Reid and let him know what you think. His phone is (202) 224-3542 and his Web site is http://reid.senate.gov

Open letter to Sen. Harry Reid:

Now that the Senate is debating the Health Care Bill, I would like to express some of my concerns and reservations.

I am a strong advocate of limited government as conceived by our wise Founders. I also believe the Constitution is the supreme law of the land and that it's bedrock principles should never be intentionally violated. To do so would be not only a breach of law but a breach of trust as well.

Our Founders were without question creating for themselves and their posterity a political system meant to restrain government and advance individual freedoms. I see the current health care reform measure as doing just the opposite. It is extending the power of government much too far, to a dangerous level, in my opinion.

My view — and it is a view undoubtedly shared by countless other Americans — is that congress may, under the terms set forth in the commerce clause of the Constitution, regulate the health care industry. However, providing a so-called “public option” constitutes much more than that. The public option is an outright entry on the part of government into the insurance business.

This additional step is overreaching, and no justification for it can be found in the Constitution or any part of its preamble.

Therefore, I am asking you as one of my representatives in the U.S. Senate to drop the “public option” from the Health Care Bill and to scale down the government's involvement in regulating any and all lawfully run commercial enterprises.

If we hope to continue enjoying the “blessing of liberty,” which I consider to be much more valuable than the “public option,” we must never permit our government to grow so large and unwieldy that we the people loose control of it.

BANK BAILOUT MAKES VERY LITTLE SENSE

Editor:

I have a problem understanding the bank bailout.

In the last two months both of my banks sent me “so sorry” letters informing me that the limit on my credit cards (I seldom use) has been lowered. Also the rate of interest has been almost doubled to more to 29.9 percent. They assure me it has nothing to do with my perfect credit.

Why am I still only getting 1-1 3/4 percent on my savings and short term CDs?

The bailout money was to loosen up credit, help small business.

Give me back the bailout cash and go broke if you make bad investments. That's what the rest of us do. I might as well keep my cash in my safe.
