U.S. Highway 95 north of Fallon between Rice Road and Wade Lane has re-opened, reports the Nevada Highway Patrol.
A major power transmission line snapped and then crossed the highway for most of the afternoon.
Winds gusted to more than 50 mph in the valley today.
The Nevada Highway Patrol responded to an accident on Interstate 80 in Churchill County near mile marker 67.
Trooper Chuck Allen said one person was killed, four critically injured and two seriously injured in the multi-vehicle accident. Allen said the accident involved four semi-trailer trucks, three pick-ups and one SUV. The accident occurred in the westbound lanes. He said troopers on the scene reported low visibility due to blowing dust.
The NHP closed the westbound lanes and is re-routing traffic south on U.S. Highway 95 to Fallon and then west to Fernley.
Travelers are advised to check with the Nevada Department of Transportation before heading out of town to check on road conditions.
Locally, agencies responded to downed power lines and trees this afternoon. A huge tree at Just Country Friends on the 700 block of West Williams Avenue toppled. Traffic was reduced to one lane until city crews cleared the area.

From Fallon to 60 miles east: Visibility will be one mile with blowing dust changing to ten miles with . There will be widely scattered very light rain ending. Winds will be 31 mph gusting to 45 from the southwest changing to 8 mph from the west.
I-80: Fernley to Winnemucca: WESTBOUND CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Visibility will be one half mile changing to ten miles. There will be occasional moderate snow changing to scattered light snow. Winds will be 33 mph gusting to 50 from the west-southwest changing to 12 mph from the west.
Fernley to Reno: Visibility will be one half mile changing to ten miles. There will be occasional moderate snow changing to scattered light snow. Winds will be 33 mph gusting to 50 from the west-southwest changing to 12 mph from the west.
