RENO — The Fallon Greenwave took control of Yerington early on its way to a 32-0 victory in the Sierra Youth Football League JV championship game on Saturday at McQueen High School.
The Wave finished the season with a 10-0 record and its fourth consecutive title.
Fallon took its opening possession and marched 65 yards for a touchdown to take an 8-0 lead. Greenwave running back Cameron Matzen capped the drive with a 13-yard scamper.
“We prepared all week for Yerington's style of play,” Fallon head coach James Richardson said. “We had great execution by our offensive line and outside receivers.”
Fallon's defense forced a turnover on downs and the offense went 18 yards, highlighted by a 3-yard touchdown run from Riley Williams to extend the lead to 16-0 early in the second quarter.
The Lions' offense turned the ball over on downs on its own 45-yard line and the Fallon offense capitalized. Matzen notched his second touchdown of the game with a 10-yard rumble as the Wave took a 24-0 lead into halftime.
“Cameron is a unique player,” Richardson said. “He's got great vision and knows when to cut.”
In the third quarter, Matzen torched Yerington for a 69-yard score down the right sideline.
