Walter Beck
A hospital executive with extensive health care experience has been named Banner Churchill Community Hospital's new chief executive officer.
Walter G. Beck will assume the CEO role on Dec. 7, said Banner Health Western Region President Jim Ferando, when making the announcement.
Beck is currently the CEO at Modoc Medical Center in Alturas, Calif. That facility is a 91-bed county general acute care hospital serving an isolated rural area. In the CEO role there, Beck has directed a turnaround in hospital finances and increased successful recruitment of critical physician and senior facility leadership positions.
Also during his tenure, Modoc Medical Center received its first Joint Commission accreditation and was designated a Critical Access Hospital.
“We are fortunate to have the opportunity to hire an individual with Walt's impressive background,” Ferando explained. “His achievements over the years include increasing hospital market share, growing the numbers of physicians on staff, inclusive strategic planning processes, opening new lines of service, and significant fundraising.”
Beck is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, served in the U.S. Marine Corps and has spent the last 30 years working in rural hospitals.
He began his hospital career in suburban Corvina, Calif., working in the maintenance department. There he was steadily promoted.
Beck served for nearly 12 years as the chief executive officer/president of George L. Mee Memorial Hospital in King City, Calif., before joining Modoc Medical Center.
“I'm very excited about coming to Banner Churchill and the community of Fallon,” Beck said. “I've looked at the community and hospital and think it will be a great experience. I'm excited to join Banner and intrigued by how they approach healthcare.”
Beck and his wife, Raelien, have two children and three grandchildren.
Phoenix-based Banner Health is one of the largest, nonprofit health care systems in the country.
The system owns or manages 22 acute-care hospitals, long-term care centers, outpatient surgery centers and an array of other services including family clinics, home care and hospice services, and a nursing registry.
