RENO, Nev.(AP) —Reno police say a 23-year-old man who was killed by officers during the weekend robbed a store and aimed a handgun at police before he was shot.
The dead man's mother identified him as Scott Demars. She says he was from Fallon, but lived in Reno.
Police Commander Jon Catalano says it wasn't immediately clear if the man shot at officers.
But Catalano says he took a defensive position and aimed his gun before he was fatally wounded.
The officers were not immediately identified.
Police say witnesses reported seeing Demars run from the Valley Market about 3 p.m. Sunday into a nearby yard on Winston Drive. That's where the deadly confrontation occurred.
