Charles Clifford Bliss



Charles Clifford Bliss passed away peacefully at his home Nov. 9, 2009 after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 21, 1953. He was a Native born in Fallon, Nev. to Clarice Gibbons Bliss and Albert Bliss. He lived all of his life at the Fallon Indian Colony. Charlie loved spending time with his family and remembering precious memories from his past. He was a member of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone tribe. All who knew Charlie knew how he loved his Native culture. He enjoyed singing handgame songs and enjoyed his trips to handgame tournaments. His team placed second in Walker River recently. He loved the time spent with Del riding around in the mountains near Austin and Reese River looking for pine nuts, hunting and enjoying the beautiful scenery.

In his youth he played baseball on the Fallon All Star Little League team. He pitched no hitter games and continued to excel with his sports ability and to make the community of Fallon proud. He also won the Pass, Punt and Kick Football competition and won a trip to the San Francisco 49'ers game and was able to sit on the bench with the team. He received a uniform from the 49'ers team and he came home wearing it proudly.

He attended elementary, junior and high school in Fallon. After graduation, he attended Bacone College and earned his degree. He worked for the U.S. Forestry Dept. at Hobart Mills, Truckee, Calif. as a hot shot firefighter. He also worked for Fallon Wildlife before retiring due to illness. His greatest talent was that of being a loving friend to many people throughout his life. His laughter and smile warmed the hearts of all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert; mother, Clarice; brother, Leland Gibbons and nephew, Steven Gibbons. He is survived by his daughter, Christine Christy (Nick); granddaughters, Jasmine and Justine; grandson, Nick, Jr.; great-grandson, Hector; brother, Delford Bliss (Mary); sisters, Verna Nuno (Reuben), Lynda Jackson, LaVerne Lonewolf, Marilyn Bliss and Delores Bliss; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Smith Family Funeral Home, 505 Rio Vista Dr., Fallon, Nev. at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. before the funeral services. Interment will follow at the Churchill County Cemetery, 500 Rio Vista Dr. Charlie's family expresses their deepest gratitude to all of his friends, loved ones and to the Fallon Tribal Clinic doctors and nurses at the dialysis center who have supported Charlie throughout his illness. May the Creator bless you all. He received exceptional care.
