NAS Fallon reviews security after Fort Hood shootings

Thursday's shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, that killed 13 and wounded more than 30 prompted a security review at Naval Air Station Fallon.

Public Affairs Officer Zip Upham said Friday the base did not raise alert or lock down because of the shooting. Upham said he couldn't divulge information regarding the base's security because of safety concerns.

“The concern is the security and whether the incident was in a larger scope,” Upham said. “Our security measures were reviewed and there was no threat to any Navy personnel here.”

Officer Kimberly Munley of the Fort Hood Police Department shot and wounded the alleged shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan. He was shot four times and remains hospitalized.

No motive has been determined for the shootings.

President Barack Obama ordered flags at the White House and other federal agencies to be flown at half-staff until Veterans Day as a tribute to those killed.

“Certainly our sympathies are extended to the families of those involved in the incident in Texas,” Upham said.

NAS Fallon and all other U.S. military bases around the globe observed on Friday a moment of silence at 11:34 a.m., local time. Fort Hood is home to the largest U.S. Army base in the world.
