AAUW has monthly meeting on Nov. 7

The American Association Of University Women (AAUW) will have its monthly meeting Nov. 7 at noon, in room 303 of the Getto Building at Western Nevada College.

The brown bag luncheon will feature guest speaker Linda Jacks discussing the Rural Nursing Program. Guests are welcome; bring your own brown bag lunch, and join us.

Sea Cadets have dinner, silent auction

The Sea Cadets are having their first annual silent auction and spaghetti dinner on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 90 N. Ada St.

Bidding is 6:30-7:30 p.m.

AAUW bridge tournament is Nov. 14

The American Association of University Women is sponsoring a bridge tournament on Nov. 14 at the Senior Center starting at 1 p.m.

The entry fee is $15 as this is a fund raiser for the local AAUW scholarship program.

Prizes will be given and refreshments served. For questions, call 423-5679.

KOC has annual pork feed on Nov. 14

The Knights of Columbus have their annual pork feed on Nov. 14.

The menu is roast pork with all the fixings. The event will be at Moiola Hall at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 850 W. Fourth St. A no-host bar opens at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The cost is $12 per person.

Cowbelles meet for lunch on Nov. 9

The Churchill County Cowbelle meeting is Nov. 9 at 12:30 p.m.

This is a pot luck luncheon at the Nevada Agriculture Extension Service Building, 111 Sheckler Rd.

All ladies interested in promoting beef and agriculture are welcome to attend.

Thrift stores have weekly sale

Fallon Industries Thrift Store, located at 165 Maine Street and Fernley Industries, located at 1301 Financial Way in Fernley, are asking both communities for donations of furniture, knick-knacks and other unique items. 

Donations are accepted in Fallon at 1520 S. Maine St., and in Fernley at 1301 Financial Way.  Call 423-4760 to schedule a donation pickup for either location. 

Specials for Nov. 2-7 are as follows: Green tagged clothing items, as well as all children's clothing, will be 50 percent off. Just in time for the holidays, all craft items will be 35 percent off. Nov. 7 will be a $5 clothing bag sale, which will include all green tagged clothing items.

All proceeds help provide services to individuals with developmental disabilities and families in need of household items.  Gift cards are for sale at both locations.

WNC offers stress relief class Nov. 7

Join Dr. Kym Maehl and Western Nevada College on Nov. 7 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for an empowering class on “Self Hypnosis and Guided Imagery for Stress Relief.”

Northside book fair ends Nov. 6

Northside Early Learning Center will host its Fall Scholastic Book Fair Nov. 2- 6.

The fair will run Monday- Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. Friday's hours are 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. Family and friends are encouraged to stop by NELC to shop the book fair on any of these days.

Community members are welcome to attend the book fair.

Veterans eat free at Elks on Nov. 11

Veterans eat free at the Elks Lodge on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 93 W. Center St., Fallon.

Refreshments begin at 5 p.m. with dinner and a Veterans Memorial Service at 6 p.m.

All veterans eat free; others are $8 adults, $4 children 10 and under. The menu is roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, steamed broccoli, salad, butter and cake.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Church bazaar is Nov. 7

The Episcopal Church women will hold their annual holiday bazaar on Nov. 7 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., 507 Churchill St.

A lunch will be served from 11 a.m. -1 p.m.

Proficiency testing set for week of Nov. 16.

The testing will take place at the Adult Education Center at 255 E. Stillwater Ave., east building. Each day during that week, the first test begins at 8:30 a.m. and the last test of the day will be given by 2 p.m. Advanced arrangements need to be made for special testing times.

The math and reading proficiencies will be given Monday-Friday of that week but the writing proficiency will only be given on Wednesday, Nov. 18. There is still time for students to come by to get some extra proficiency study materials or to study with math teacher, Gary Butori.

Marine Corps League meets Saturday

The High Desert Detachment of the Marine Corps League has a meeting on the second Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. at the VFW Hall at 405 S. Maine St., in Fallon,

Co-op is looking for artists, crafts people

Sagebrush Sisters Artist Co-op in Fallon is looking for artists and fine crafts people for its second annual Christmas Art Faire at the Historic Old Fallon Post Office.

This coincides with Maine Street Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration and Hometown Christmas Craft Fair on Dec. 4-5. Artists' work will be displayed in a tasteful, festive and boutique-style venue. For a $50 participation fee (or $40 for members) and only two hours of work at the faire, artists receive credit card services for their customers at the faire, advertising prior to the event and a one-stop check out service that includes tissue and merchandise bags. Space is limited.

A portion of the participation fee will be donated to Domestic Violence Intervention of Fallon.

American Legion serves breakfast Sunday

The American Legion will serve breakfast on Sunday from 8-10:30 a.m. at the Legion Hall, 90 N. Ada St. The cost is $6. The American Legion serves breakfast the second Sunday of each month.

Kiwanis sponsors personal hygiene drive

The Fallon Kiwanis Club is having a personal hygiene drive for the holiday periods. These items will go to local shelters and food closets for those in need during these holiday times.

The club is looking for new items such as deodorants, dental care items, diapers (child and adults), hair care products, body and laundry soaps toothpaste and toothbrushes, etc.

Thrift Shop's half-price sale is Nov. 11

The Community Service Thrift Shop, 169 E. Center St., has special sales each weekday.

A storewide half-price sale is on Nov. 11 including wedding gowns and formals, furniture, dishes, books, toys, pictures, shoes, music, bedding and much more. CSTS receives many requests for assistance from people who have no place else to get assistance with housing, utilities, or prescriptions on a one-time basis. CSTS is a non-profit and staffed by more than 25 volunteers who have chosen to “give back” to the community by donating their time and skills.

Leave your clean, resalable donations between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.

Model railroads of Fallon meet Nov. 8

Open house for model railroads of Fallon will be Nov. 8 between 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., in the old freight station at the Depot Casino parking lot, corner of Tedford Street and Williams Avenue.

Holiday Faire slated for Nov. 20-21

“Nine Ladies Dancing” Holiday Faire is Nov. 20-21 at 1165 Bon Accord Lane.

Friday hours are 5-9:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. There is still room for artists and crafters.
