The Churchill Arts Council will present a concert with the Kepa Junkera Ensemble on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon.

The performance was originally to be presented on Nov. 14, but due to changes in the artist's schedule, the date was moved to Nov. 7.

Doors and the Art Bar will open at 7 p.m. Tickets — $17 CAC members, $20 non-members, $10 students — are available at Jeff's Copy Express, Postage Plus, ITT @ NAS Fallon or by calling 423-1440.

Kepa Junkera, along with Joseba Zulaika, Director of Basque Studies at UNR, will also conduct a free and open-to-the-public preview and conversation on Basque music and traditions at 3 p.m. on the day of the performance. For more information or to RSVP for the preview, call CAC at 423-1440 or e-mail charts@phonewave.net

Kepa Junkera is a master of the trikitixa, the Basque-style diatonic accordion, and one of the most innovative musicians in Europe who has performed with world-renowned musicians from the Chieftains to Andreas Vollenweider as well as at concert halls throughout Europe and the British Isles.

Beginning in 1983, he toured extensively with the group Osskori and subsequently recorded his first original scores in 1988. Over the years he has incorporated improvisational elements into the traditional Basque dance music as well as bringing some folk-rock sounds into the mix.

In 1999 he released “Bilbao 00:00” a double album tribute to the city where he was born which featured collaborations with many world-class musicians including Bela Fleck, Cristina Branco, Paddy Maloney and many others

His 2006 release, Hiri, was named the Best Album of World Music in Europe for its fascinating blend of tradition and contemporary elements.

As the Nobel Laureate in Literature, José Saramago puts it, “there is a musical city where all the cities of the world are represented … the name of the architect and builder of all this is Kepa.” For more information on Kepa Junkera, visit www.kepjunkera.com.
