Retired Col. Frederick Webster Searles died peacefully on September 26, 2009. Born on Aug. 9, 1913, in Great Falls, Montana, he attended high school and the University in Missoula, graduating with a degree in economics. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve Corps and worked in the local gas company until he was called to active service by the Army. He served in the U.S., transferring to the newly founded Air Force. He was stationed in occupied Germany for four years and then to Japan for several years. He retired from active duty with the rank of Colonel. He then located into California and two years later moved to Reno, Nevada, and lived with his mother until her death. Then he bought an apartment house on the banks of the Truckee River and a ranch east of Reno near Wadsworth. He raised cattle there until 2002, had a winter home near Orlando, Florida then Green Valley, Arizona. In 2006, he bought a home and acreage in Fallon, Nevada where he raised livestock until his death.
