The Churchill County Library Foundation is having its annual wine tasting event on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Fallon Convention Center.
Enjoy an evening of good wines, raffles, silent auctions and dancing to Silverwing.

CC Communications sponsors its second
community blood drive
CC Communications, in partnership with United Blood Services in Reno, is sponsoring its second community “Find the Hero In You” Blood Drive.
It takes place on Oct. 26 from noon-5 p.m. in the Bloodmobile at the parking lot at ‘A' and Carson streets across from the fire station and the CC Communications administrative building.

Annual Rotary Foundation Dinner is Oct. 23
Rotary Club of Fallon will be hosting the Area 10 Foundation Dinner on Oct. 23 at the Fallon Convention Center.
This event is open to the public. The social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $45 a person. Dinner is being catered by The Slanted Porch. Bob Kings,
Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator will be the guest speaker. There will also be a silent auction.
All proceeds including a portion of the ticket price will be used to support The Rotary Foundation. For information, contact 423-4088.
Annual harvest auction in Smith Valley is Oct. 18
An annual harvest is slated for Oct. 18 at the Smith Valley Community Hall in Wellington. Doors open at 10 a.m., and the auction begins at 11:30 a.m.
Among the items are a craft boutique, country kitchen, snack bar, silent auction and raffle.

Fallon SDA School fall festival is Oct. 18
The Fallon SDA School fall festival features games, food and fun on Oct. 18 at the community hall across from the church on Esmeralda Street.
The time is 5:30-8 p.m.
There will be various contests for different age groups, from six to adult. Enjoy the pumpkin painting contest, balloon darts, pumpkin in the straw and pumpkin mini golf.
There is a $5 entrance fee; all community children are welcome for a night of fun.

The Sons of The American Legion, 90 N. Ada St., is having a spaghetti dinner with salad and bread on Oct. 21. Dinner will be served 5-7 p.m.

Elks Club has ‘taco night'
It's “Taco Night” on Oct. 16 at the Elks Club, 93 W. Center St., with cocktails at 5 p.m., and dinner served at 6 p.m.
Cost is $7 adults, and $4 children 10 and under.
The menu is crisp or soft tortilla, taco meat with all the fixings and dessert.
Community Thrift Shop half-price sale is Oct. 16
Community Service Thrift Shop, 169 E. Center St. has special sales each weekday.
The store will have a half-price sale on Oct. 16. The CCST is continuing to receive many requests for assistance from people who have no place else to get assistance with housing, utilities or prescriptions on a one time basis.
The CCST is nonprofit and staffed by more than 25 volunteers who have chosen to “give back” to the community by donating their time and skills.
Leave clean, resalable donations between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekdays.
The store is open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays.
CCJHS Christmas Craft Fair needs vendors
Churchill County Junior High School, along with Alpha Theta Sorority, is hosting a Christmas craft fair on Dec. 4 and Dec. 5.
The hours for Friday evening are 6-9 p.m. and on Saturday, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Admission will be $1 per person or can food items which will go to the Food Pantry. There will also be raffle prize drawings. Sponsors are looking for vendors at $25 for a booth for both days with only 40 booths available. For information, contact Deby Smotherman at the Junior High School at 423-7701.
Social Services receives grant for employment
Churchill County Social Services has received a state of Nevada Community Service Block Grant to help local residents find employment.
A new program called STEP, Strategic Employment Training Program, is being implemented. This new program will help those who are unemployed find jobs and receive the job training necessary to find employment.
The grant also provides assistance to those who are underemployed and need additional job training skills.
Churchill County Social Services is partnering with CEDA, JOIN, Job Connect and WNC to expand the resources available to county residents. They are partnering with local businesses to find out who is hiring and what specific training requirements are necessary.
Through these partnerships, Social Services hopes to see an increase in the number of residents who are employed in Churchill County.
Those interested in the program must make an appointment with Social Services. Call 423-6695 Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. for appointments. Acceptance into the program is based on income limits and other criteria.

Haunted house and hay ride offered Oct. 23-24
It's not just the fall weather that will bring chills down your spine. Churchill County Parks and Recreation will be putting together its annual Haunted House and Hay Ride on Oct. 23-24 from 6-10 p.m. each night.
This year's house and newly designed hayride will be sure to scare even the toughest person around. Be sure to come out and get into the Halloween spirit.

Fallon Industries Thrift Store at 165 Maine St., and Fernley Industries, the newest thrift store at 1301 Financial Way in Fernley, are asking both communities for donations of furniture, knick-knacks and other unique items.
Donations are accepted and greatly appreciated in Fallon at 1520 S. Maine St., and in Fernley at 1301 Financial Way.

Specials for October 12-17 are as follows: Yellow tagged clothing items will be 50 percent off. Purses and shoes will be 35 percent off. Electronics and Halloween items will be 25 percent off.

Narcotics Anonymous offers daily meetings
“The Good Fellas,” a local chapter of Narcotics Anonymous, offers several meetings each week and invites interested persons to attend.
The Good Fellas meet Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m. at New Frontier Treatment Center, 1490 Grimes St., and a women's-only group meets Mondays at 7 p.m. at New Frontier. The Good Fellas also meet Wednesday nights for “happy hour” from 7-8 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, 1420 Grimes St.
On weekends, The Good Fellas meet Saturdays for a breakfast meeting with guest speakers from 10-11 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, and on Sundays from 10-11 a.m. at New Frontier Treatment Center.
