High School Rodeo opens at White Pine



The Fallon High School Rodeo Club opened the 2009-2010 season at the White Pine rodeo in Ely on Sept. 25 and 26.

On Sept. 25, Fallon captured four first-place finishes. Rachel Hendrix was named rookie cowgirl, and won pole bending with a time of 21.253 seconds. Kenady Howard captured the goat tying at 7.70, Morgan Howard won breakaway roping at 3.33 and Donald Moyle took steer wrestling at 8.07.

Fallon cowboys and cowgirls had several other high finishes that day. Morgan Howard took fourth in goat tying in 8.67 seconds. Kenady Howard and Hendrix finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in breakaway roping at 3.90 and 4.05. Terynn Archuleta and Chase Wortman took fourth in team roping at 13.51 and Moyle finished fifth in calf roping at 23.92.

On Sept. 26, Kayla Norcutt won the goat tying competition in 8.80 seconds and Morgan Howard finished fourth at 9.23, followed by Kenady Howard in fifth place at 9.68 and Claire-Marie Ward sixth at 11.43. Archuleta finished second and Moyle fourth in steer wrestling in 8.10 and 8.59, respectively. Dylan Norcutt teamed with Hank Fillipini of Battle Mountain for a third-place finish in team roping at 11.83.

In breakaway roping, Morgan Howard took third at 4.18, Kenady Howard fourth at 4.32 and Kayla Norcutt fifth at 4.75. Archuleta finished second in steer wrestling at 8.10.

Fallon next participates at the Alamo Rodeo on Oct. 30-Nov. 1. The final high school rodeo of the fall season is Nov. 14-15 in Boulder City. After the winter break, the season resumes March 12-13 at Moapa Valley. The Fallon High School Rodeo is April 9-11.
