CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Nevada Association of Counties has named state Sen. Terry Care and Assemblyman Pete Goicoechea as legislators of the year during the 2009 Legislature.
Goicoechea is a Republican from Eureka.
Care is a Democrat from Las Vegas.
They're credited with supporting county governments, and Care sponsored a bill establishing a legislative committee to study powers delegated to county governments.
Officials noted that the 2009 Legislatures tapped funds that usually go to county and city governments to cover state budget shortfalls.
The Nevada Association of Counties is a nonpartisan, nonprofit association that represents the 17 counties in Nevada.
