Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki has announced a new initiative that will document the stories of Nevada's veterans of the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT).
Based on the tradition of wartime works, the stories will be video and audio taped and made available to the public on the lieutenant governor's Web site. Battle Born: Nevada War Stories will be about preparing for battle, surviving in combat and support missions, being fired upon and perhaps wounded, grieving and dealing with the deaths of friends, and coping with the extraordinary stress of military service during wartime.
“In the almost eight years since the attacks of Sept. 11, American service members have been called to serve multiple tours in a war with at least two fronts,” said Krolicki. “Battle Born will be a respectful and fitting tribute to the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines — and their families — who have given so much of themselves.”
The lieutenant governor's office became involved in veterans issues two years ago when a former GWOT veteran and West Point graduate joined the staff. Caleb Cage, senior policy advisor, has articulated the needs, and advocated on behalf of, this generation of service members and GWOT veterans to the lieutenant governor.
“The Global War on Terrorism has been the defining moment of the generation that currently fills the ranks of the American military,” said Cage. “This project will allow my fellow Nevadans to share their individual stories with a much larger audience and allow current and future generations to appreciate these personal perspectives as they apply to the broader issues of war, duty, honor and country.”
In addition to Battle Born: Nevada War Stories, Krolicki is hosting the second annual Nevada Veterans Conference on Sept. 12 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Additional information on both of these programs is available at ltgov.nv.gov or calling Caleb Cage at (775) 684-7122.
