Free business seminar offered this month



Today's economy continues to challenge the survival of many local businesses.

A partnership of Northern Nevada organizations and Churchill Economic Development Authority will conduct a “Moving Business Forward” seminar on Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Fallon Convention Center.

Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and admission is free, but registration will be required for the seminar.

Registration is now open through the UNR Extended Studies web site (www.extendedstudies.unr.edu). Registrants should select the Moving Business Forward Seminar link to register for the seminar or contact the Enrollment Services office to enroll, (800) 233-8928.

The resource partners and sponsors for the event include Churchill Economic Development Authority, SCORE of Northern Nevada, UNR Extended Studies, Fallon Chamber of Commerce, city of Fallon, Churchill County, U.S. Small Business Administration, Mineral County Economic Development Authority, Greater Pershing Partnership, First Independent Bank of Nevada, Lahontan Valley Environmental Alliance, Digitex and the Nevada Small Business Development Center.

The day's agenda will include guest speakers; keynote speaker Rachel Dahl, newly elected city councilwoman; sessions on moving a business forward in the current economic environment; a complimentary working lunch; networking time for attendees and an open forum questions and answer panel with the seminar presenters.

Sessions will be led by experienced professionals drawn from the partners and the community. The session topics were selected through a survey of Northern Nevada Small Businesses and will include:

• Controlling and reducing expenses and cash management — “Keeping your financial ship afloat”

• Marketing strategies for success – “A practical approach to marketing”

• Understanding legal issues that can affect your business — “Understanding how purchasing, owning, operating, selling or leaving a business can affect you and how best to minimize liability.”
