READER DISCUSSES HEALTH CARE IN THE UNITED STATES

Editor,

Incredible!

With my apology to Ann Coulter for ignoring her article yesterday, I would rather be talking about Bill O'Reilly and his End of the World pronouncement, “The stunning collapse in public opinion for President Obama's health care plan demonstrates a weakness in the president's overall vision.”

Wow!!

Let's also forget about Mr. O'Reilly and talk about a fundamental issue in our society separate and apart from the rest of the world since our nation seems to be a wonder of paradoxes. We seem to be living in many contradictory parallel universes considering the gap between what we profess to believe in and our actions in reality.

Let's consider the issue of health care that has been plaguing our nation for decades. Let's consider the fact the we claim to be primarily a Christian nation —about 280 million out of a total of about 306. It seems to me that Christ would be furious:

About us not already providing the best health care for every individual living within our borders. Has he not commanded us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves?

About the monumentally unreasonable distribution of our wealth such as about 3 million of us owning more than 30 percent of the nation's net wealth whereas 240 million of us at the opposite end own about 15 percent.

About us wasting our human and material resources by spending more than the rest of the world combined on a long past outdated military industrial complex when we have no real enemies and this too in contradiction to one his greatest pronouncements: blessed are the peacemaker; they will be called children of God.

Let me conclude with two of Benjamin Franklin statements:

How many observe Christ's birthday, how few his teachings;

The way to be safe is never to be secure.

FALLON BUSINESS HELPS CUSTOMER WITH CELL PHONE

Dear Editor:

A week past my wife and I were traveling home from a trip to Utah. Most of the time we just drive through your fair city without stopping, but this trip we stoped at Jerry's restaurant.

About an hour out I discovered that upon leaving I left my cell phone in the booth. Upon arrival at our home, we called Jerry's to see if in fact the phone was at Jerry's. It was, and today we received it in the mail.

No longer will we just past through your fine city. We will stop and spend some time. Honesty and friendliness are great tools and selling points for people and for their communities. It was a small thing the folks at Jerry's did for us, but it is the small grains of sand that builds a big beach.

Thank you Fallon and the folks at Jerry's.

EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A ‘MACK' AS AN EMPLOYEE

Editor:

Recently I called Louie's Home Center to find deck mud for a shower installation of a bathroom remodel in Austin.

Mack, the person who answered, said they didn't carry it, but he would find out where it could be purchased. Did he ever. He called back with recipes and Web sites. He took the time to send this info via e-mail to us. I did not know that this kind of personalized service still exists.

Since I live in Reno, most of my purchases for the project were made in Reno. I had the misfortune of dealing with a particular “box” store for some of the purchases.

Either because of ineptness, indifference or both we had to make a five-hour round trip to their box store in Fernley to pick up parts to complete an order that was mishandled here in Reno. This was just one of their screw ups. Their indifference/ineptness cost us at least nine hours of unnecessary time on this project. I so wish that I would have had a “Mack” here in Reno.
