Candylycious located at 116 S. Maine St. is a family affair specilizing in a large variety of candies, ice cream, nostalgic candy, candy gift baskets and flowers. Pictured is tthe Nelsen family, from left, Corinne, Dallin, Jarin, Alex, Myke, Wendy and Amidayne.
Fallon's new candy and ice cream shop, Candylycious, was inspired by the childhood memories of owner Wendy Nelsen, who has created a wonderland, not only for children but also for adults.
“As a little kid I used to get 25 cents every Saturday for my allowance,” Nelsen said. “With 25 cents, I could get two Jolly Rancher Sticks and two Dum Dum Suckers. I wanted to recreate that for kids.”
Not only has Nelsen focused on creating a magical place for children to remember, but she also worked to recreate the memories of adults by carrying “nostalgia candy.”
So far she said many children look at the classic rare candies and ask: “What is this?” While parents are exclaiming: “You have to try this!”
Nelsen has also made sure that prices are to her recollection.
“We have stuff that's more expensive, but we also have stuff that's 10 cents,” Nelsen said.
Just about everything in Candylycious is unique, Nelsen said, because her husband Myke and she have been planning it for four years. Everything has been handcrafted from the spelling of Candylycious to the colors on the walls and the names of the sizes: Sugar Fix, Sugar Rush, Sugar Addict and Sugar Coma.
Even the employees are unique because they consist of Nelsen's four eldest children — Corinne, Jarin, Dallin and Alex.
Although 9-year-old, AmiDayne, is too young to work, she too has contributed to the fun quality of Candylycious by coining their slogan: “Don't Make Me Lick You.”
Despite her family's personal touches, Nelsen said the establishment is still a work in progress because they want to tailor their products and services to Fallon's desires too.
“We like suggestions so we can find candy and bring it in,” Nelsen said. “We'll keep morphing it into what our customers want.”
Candylycious is located at 116 S. Maine St. 423-1100. Hours are 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
