FALLON - Barbara Rosenberger has a conviction for the young men and women serving overseas in the military, and is asking for the publics help in providing supplies and treats for a National Guard squadron stationed in Iraq.
Rosenberger belongs to several groups which volunteer their time and money to support the troops, one of which is the Web of Support. Through the Web of Support, www.webofsupport.com, Rosenberger adopted Chief Warrant Officer Jason Penrod who is attached to C Company, 1-168th General Support Aviation Battalion, 101st Airborne of the Nevada National Guard. C Company is an air ambulance helicopter squadron based near Sacramento, Calif., and Penrod has requested several items for his squadron and to share with the men his squadron rescues.
The items requested include:
Copenhagen chew (which Penrod requested against his obligation as a doctor, but the troops has requested it)
Baby wipes to clean with
Starbucks coffee or Starbucks treats
Square-bottom coffee filters
Travel coffee mugs
Candy like Twix or Hersheys
Sunflower seeds
Penrod has also requested cards and letters from people of Fallon. He told Rosenberger the letters boost the troops moral, especially when received from children who show appreciation for their military service.
Rosenberger, who is a member of the Patriot Guard Riders (the Old Guard Riders), plans to join the local Eagle Riders group. While none of her children was able to serve in the military due to illness, shes kept in touch with her childrens friends who are service members and feels a strong need to provide whatever support she can for them.
What we take for granted, these soldiers would really appreciated as they have so very little over there to keep their morale and spirits up, Rosenberger said. These men and women risk their life every day so we as Americans can live safe and free. What they are asking for does not seem like much to us, but I can assure you that it will mean the world to them.
Several donation boxes have been set up around town, and Rosenberger will also accept items at her home. She is also accepting monetary donations for shipping charges, as she pays that from her own pocket and only works part time. If other local businesses wish to set up donation boxes, contact Rosenberger at 427-5416, or barbspaints@yahoo.com or at 2850 Cushman Road.
Donation boxes are located at the following locations:
Banner Churchill Community Hospital
Western Nevada College one in each building
Lahontan Valley News
Suggestions for further general donation items troops desire can be found on numerous Web sites, and Rosenberger requests each donation be accompanied by a letter for a personal touch.
