Stocking Stuffer Run slated for Saturday

Saturday marks the fourth annual Highland Manor of Fallon Stocking Stuffer Run. This annual event will benefit the residents at Highland Manor, raising donations for Christmas and future events at the skilled nursing facility.

The Stocking Stuffer Run is a great opportunity for everyone to show his or her appreciation for the seniors in our community. As the holidays are getting closer, the goal is to make this season memorable and special for the residents.

The annual Stocking Stuffer Run began when Highland Manor opened in 2005. Each year, motorcycle and car enthusiasts gather for a motorcade, heading to the skilled nursing facility and led by Santa Claus himself. Anyone who wants to ride in the Stocking Stuffer Run should meet at the Raley’s parking lot at 10 a.m. The entire community is invited to join this event.

Families are encouraged to bring their children to meet Santa Claus and enjoy the activities. There will be food and nonalcoholic drinks provided, along with a raffle drawing.

Highland Manor receives items from local businesses and charitable organizations nationwide, all of which will be raffled on Saturday. Among the raffle prizes for this year are autographs of NFL football players, actors and musicians; vacation packages; dinners; shirts; and more. All proceeds will benefit the patients and residents.

Each participant of the Stocking Stuffer Run is to bring one unwrapped Stocking Stuffer for a resident. Suggested items are slipper socks, sweat suits, stationery, picture frames/albums, scrapbooks, puzzle books/books (in large print), perfumed body lotion/powder, hats, scarves, gloves, digital clocks, jewelry sets, stuffed animals, manicure sets, cologne, knickknacks, ball caps, board games, hard candles, watches, handheld games, hair accessories, candy canes, playing cards, straw hats, flannel shirts. The gifts are gathered until Dec. 22.

The second part of this event will be on Dec. 23, the giving of the stockings. On this day, each resident is given his or her own four-foot stocking filled with all the gifts donated from the Stocking Stuffer Run. The gifts are distributed according to the patient’s or residence’s preference.

Everyone is welcome to participate on Dec. 22. The donations and the community’s support are highly appreciated.

Highland Manor is also looking for volunteers to assist in the events or to spend time with the residents. For more information, please contact Peggy Reed (867-4351) or Heather Tidwell (423-7800).
