Registration begins for spring WNC classes

Submitted by WNC

Registration has begun for spring classes at Western Nevada College, this week for continuing students, and beginning next week, for everyone.

Spring classes begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Forty class sections are being offered at the WNC Fernley Center or Fernley High School, and dozens more class sections are offered by Web.

This semester, for the first time in Fernley, students can take an on-site three-credit Core Humanities course that is required for almost all degrees.

“Ancient and Medieval Culture” is offered Tuesdays from 7-9:45 p.m. (Call # 17071, CH 201, $192).

“This course covers the most representative aspects of Western culture throughout the Greek, Roman, and Medieval periods,” instructor Jeannette M. Nagel said. “The Greek, Roman and Judeo-Christian cultures, particularly the Greeks, laid the foundation of Western civilization, and that is why we study their art, literature, philosophy, history and religion.

“Within an interpretive historical framework, students have an opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation of the universal aspects of creativity, expression, and achievement involving our cultural legacy.”

Other classes offered on site include three-credit “Financial Accounting” (Call #12403, ACC 201, Thursdays, 7-9:45 p.m. $192), and three-credit “Introduction to Business” (Call #17596, BUS 101, Tuesdays, 7-9:45 p.m., $192).

An early Childhood Education and a Human Development Family Studies course are also offered on site at WNC Fernley.

Computer and Office Technology classes are offered online, along with career-oriented classes in medical transcription and medical billing, as part of Western’s Health Information Technology program.

Other online classes offered this spring will include bookkeeping, accounting, art history, business math, business law, word processing, mathematics, criminal justice, economics, English, geology and history.
