Mary Elizabeth Reid of Houston and Fallon passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2008, at the age of 65. Mary was born Jan. 23, 1943 in Evanston, Ill. Always one to pursue learning, she found her calling late in life, became a scientist, and sought to impact the community in which she lived. She had a deep love for family and created lasting memories.
Mary was known in Churchill County for her deep commitment to agriculture in the community and for highlighting the importance of maintaining clean drinking water in Churchill County. As a cancer survivor, Mary was thankful for the new lease on life given to her by MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and, as a result, she faithfully volunteered her time at MD Anderson encouraging those who were diagnosed with cancer.
She is the widow of Herb Haber and is survived by sons Bill (Laura) Stark of Livermore, Calif., and Geof (Lenna) Stark of Fallon; brothers Andrew (Ana) Reid of Oakland, Calif., and David (Joyce) Reid of Palm Harbor, Fla,; and grandchildren Ryan, Annalisa, and Rebecca Stark. A memorial service was held in Houston and a local memorial service in Fallon will be scheduled in the near future. Contributions may be made to the Churchill County Museum.
