Two district judge incumbents were re-elected Tuesday, while a Dayton justice of peace defeated Thomas Stockard III of Fallon for the third seat.

Judge David Huff defeated Jack Kennedy for the District III Department I seat. Incumbent Leon Aberasturi received several thousand more votes than John Schleglmilch for Department II, and William Rogers defeated Stockard 14,565 votes to 12,691.

In Churchill County, Huff received 6,576 votes to Kennedy’s 3,237. In early voting in Lyon County, Kennedy received 8,478 votes to Huff’s 8,280.

In Department II, Aberasturi received 6,151 votes in Churchill County to Schlegelmilch’s 3,264. In Lyon County’s early vote, Aberasturi leads Schlegelmilch — 9,373to 7,329.

In Department III, Stockard received 6,102 votes to Roger’s 3,320 in Churchill County

Huff was pleased with the early results, but wanted to reserve comment after all the votes were tabulated.

Aberasturi was pleased with the trends, and thanked the people who voted for him.

“I am just happy if the trends stay the same,” he said. “I look forward to serving Churchill and Lyon counties for another six years.”

Aberasturi said he was not surprised with the results so far.

“I did good work, and I was hardworking,” he said, adding he thought these two factors would result in him getting more than the special election he won two years ago.

He said the voters — if the trends don’t dramatically change — are putting their faith in him, and he cannot let them down.

Stockard said he is pleased with the support he received in Churchill County.

Stockard is the chief deputy district attorney for Churchill County.
