After 13 years with the Fallon Farmer’s Market and four years as president, Leslie Beach has decided to retire.

“Its just time,” Beach said.

Beach joined the Farmer’s Market in its second year. She has been a board member, secretary, vice president and president.

“I’m always going,” Beach said. “I was born with tons of energy.”

Her family joined in and turned her volunteering into a family affair. Her son, Brad, helped with tomato tasting, while her daughter, Corrine, daughter-in-law, Tirza, and her daughter-in-law’s sister, Lottie, sang at the market.

“She just had fun with it the whole way around,” said Cecilea Lehman-Cardin, former Farmer’s Market secretary and receptionist for Beach’s Mortgage Company.

As president, Beach played a tremendous role in the market. Not only was she involved in planning, organizing and leadership, she helped out wherever she was needed, like in prep or last minute errands.

“She always donated her time,” Lehman-Cardin said.

Nevertheless, Beach has many existing and new priorities that need her time as well. Between running her two businesses, Beach Mortgage Inc. and Sand Mountain Storage, she already has very little.

A new priority, however, is visiting her children, who have grown up and are living in several different areas.

“I’d like to spend more time with them,” she said.

Another new priority is Beach’s Baby Chic Boutique, a new business she’ll open in the first week of November in the same building as her mortgage company.

“It takes a lot of time,” Beach said of running one business, let alone three.

Not surprisingly, Beach also wants a little personal time to catch up on some of her old hobbies, like seamstress work and baking wedding cakes.

“I have a lot of creative things I like to do,” she said.

Although it is time to move on to new things, Beach will be remembered for her enthusiasm and unique ideas which helped shape Farmer’s Market into what it is today.

“Her brain is constantly on the move.” Lehman-Cardin said.

Beach contributed to the market by inviting the Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department to conduct water games and by creating the Youth DJ Area and Kids Corner.

She also played a significant role in the formation of other new market attractions, like Backyard & Senior Farmers and the Fallon Farmer’s Market Web page.

The board has not found anyone to replace Beach yet, but those who worked with her know that it will be difficult to find someone to replace her.

“They have to be really outgoing and patient, and they have to know what’s going on,” Lehman-Cardin said.

Beach dedicated herself to the Fallon Farmer’s Market and helped it grow, but it is now up to someone else to take the lead.

“I really loved the Farmer’s Market,” Beach said. “It’s just time.”
