I am writing in support of the proposed additional property tax of County Question No. 2, exclusively dedicated to the purchase of major fire-fighting equipment for the Fallon Churchill Volunteer Fire Department.
This increase will amount to $10.50 per year for a home of $100,000 value.
Compare this $10.50 to the additional hundreds of dollars in fire insurance premiums we would have to pay for our existing fire insurance should the fire department be rated lower by the Insurance Services Office. The ISO rating received by our fire department is the highest possible for Fallon and surroundings, based upon equipment, training and water supply.
As my husband and I learned when moving to Fallon from Northern California, this ISO rating prevented our premiums from tripling due to the change from a paid to a volunteer fire brigade, and to the differences in climate.
The total moneys generated from this tax would amount to roughly $200,000 per year. The fund, administered by the City of Fallon and Churchill County, would be used for the sole purpose of the purchase of equipment. A fully-equipped fire truck costs close to $300,000.
To our community voters: Please dont be penny-wise and pound-foolish! Please vote yes on Churchill County Question 2 for the safety of our community and for the support and safety of our 42 brave, well-trained and hard-working volunteer fire fighters.
