Road work on Whitaker Lane

A&amp;K Earthmovers is doing road work in the area of Lahontan Elementary School. Traffic will be detoured on Sunset to Concord. This work will take a couple of months to complete. Please allow yourself extra time when driving in this area.



Community barbecue on Friday

Colonial Bank will hold a community barbecue May 16 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Valley Plaza, 1855 W. Williams Ave.



Youth football, cheer signups

Fallon Youth football and cheerleading will hold sign up days May 17 and May 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Fallon Youth Football club house at 1500 Rio Vista. For more information, contact Football Commissioner Marc LaFleur at 775-427-4122.



Fallon Industries' weekly sales

Fallon Industries Thrift Store at 165 Maine St., would like to thank you for your continued support through shopping and donations.

The following are our specials for May 12-17: All yellow tagged clothing items are 25 percent off, any item with a cord is 25 percent off, all kid toys are 50 percent off, all lamps and lamp shades are 50 percent off.

Retired civil employees

NARFE will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. in the Fallon Senior Center on May 21. All retired and active civil service members are invited.



Lords fundraising dinner

The Daniel Lords fundraising dinner, raffle and silent auction will be held May 21 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Fallon Convention Center. Tickets are $15 per family or $5 each (please list the family first).

Iris show May 19-22

The Lahontan Garden Club will hold its annual iris show from May 19 to May 22. The show opens at 9 a.m. on May 19.

The show will be held at the Churchill County Library. Everyone with iris who would like to show and share with the public are invited to drop off their flowers at anytime during the four days. Vases will be provided, and no Iris will be returned.

The event is free to spectators and participants. Call 423-7434 or 423-2457 for additional information.



Equine partnership workshop

Josh Foster's The Equine Partner's Partnership Workshop will be held May 18 from noon to 5 p.m. at 2001 Soda Lake Road. The cost is $75. There will be no charge for spectators.

UNR Booster's Steppin' Out

The Fallon Alumni Chapter of the University of Nevada will host a Steppin' Out bus, dinner and show package to Reno on Sunday afternoon.

The cost is $60 per person and includes round-trip bus transportation, drinks and snacks on the bus, a buffet dinner at the Eldorado Hotel/Casino and reserved seats for the production of "Floor Play."

Only 35 tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For tickets call 423-5889 or 423-2243. The bus departs Fallon at 1 p.m. and returns by 7 p.m.

All proceeds from Fallon Alumni Chapter events go toward scholarships for local graduating students planning to attend the University of Nevada, Reno. Since 1000, the Fallon chapter has raised more than $28,000 for scholarships.
