There will be no Greenwave athletes participating in this weekend's NIAA state track meet at Damonte Ranch High School.
Nobody from Fallon qualified for the state meet during Saturday's Northern 4A regionals. Only the top three finishers in each event qualified for the state meet and nobody from Fallon finished higher than fifth place.
"We had several personal records at the meet which is always great," boys head coach Steve Heck said, "but we had a few dissappointments too. That is what makes the big meets so exciting though."
Greg Heck and Dexter Daum had the Wave's highest finishes. Heck finished fifth in the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet, 6 inches. Daum took fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 42-11.75.
"The pole vault in Northern Nevada is extremely tough right now, and Greg had a lot of excellent competition. He has done very well for himself this year." coach Heck said. " And Daum jumped more than a foot farther than he ever has in the triple jump. We are glad to have him back next year."
Jake Johnston took sixth in the high jump at exactly six feet.
"The high jump competition was tough and we were proud of Jake for doing as well as he did." Heck said. "He has been nursing an injury all year and has only had a few chances to high jump."
Fike Johnson finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 2.22 seconds and eighth in the 1600 run at 4:39.54.
"Fike ran very strong," Heck said. "Since he is only a freshman we have really high hopes for him the next 3 years."
The boys 400-relay team of Anthony Woller, Rosario Silva, A.J. Malia, and Joseph Floyd ran its best time of the year at 46.09 and finished sixth. Buster Litton concluded his Greenwave career with an eighth-place finish in the discus at 135-05.
Among the girls, Jasmine Mauga finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 34-1.5. She was ninth in the discus at 91-10. Crystal Grenamyer finished seventh in the 400 dash at 64.09 and ninth in the long jump at 15-01.
"We expected Jasmine to challenge for a spot at state, but she came up just a bit short," girls coach Paul Orong said. "And Crystals finish was suprising since since that's only the second time she's run in that event. We're proud of both of them."
