Churchill County residents should be proud of their high school this weekend.

The high school concert choir, jazz band and Junior ROTC color guard will be in the San Francisco Bay Area to show their green-and-white pride.

For the sixth straight year, the concert will sing the national anthem at AT&T Park prior the Giants-Phillies baseball game.

And for the past three years, the event has been designated as Churchill County Day at the ballpark.

This is a terrific honor considering that 99 percent of all the schools that receive such an honor come from Northern California.

Fallon, as far as we know, is the only Nevada school that has earned such a designation.

Before the game begins, the jazz choir will also warm up the crowd at Willie Mays Plaza.

This year, though, during the seventh inning stretch, members of the choir will not be able to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." Choir director Kathy Archey said that won't happen because the Giants have the middle of the seventh inning reserved for a corporate sponsor.

Nevertheless, for local baseball fans, this is a win-win situation. The school has been selling tickets to the game for the past month, although Archey said sales are a little sluggish.

No doubt, $4 for a gallon of petrol has deterred some from making the trip to the Bay Area.

However, the music program also earns a portion of each ticket that is sold. Archey said fans can still purchase tickets at the high school today, and they will be waiting a Will Call on Saturday.

The choir, band and color guard will have a warm-up event on Friday morning. The young but talented musicians will perform at Six Flags Discover Kingdom (formerly Marine World).

It's satisfying to know how proud these young men and women are a credit to Churchill County.
