Local deceased officers honored Friday

Print Comment
Two officers killed in the line of duty with ties to Fallon will be honored Friday at the 21st Annual James D. Hoff Peace Officers Memorial.

Fallon Paiute Shoshone Officer Adam Menuez and Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Kara Kelly Borgognone will be the officers recognized Friday morning for their service.

Menuez, 27, died July 4, 2007 in a single vehicle rollover accident at the intersection Rio Vista Drive and Indian Lakes Road while responding to a call for service in the early morning hours.

Kelly-Borgognone, 33, was critically injured in a car accident in Spanish Springs Feb. 25 while responding to a bomb scare call north of Sparks. She was kept alive for two days so her organs could be donated to others.

The annual memorial honoring officer James D. Hoff, also recognizes other officers killed in the line of duty, with an enshrinement during the ceremony. Reno mayor Bob Cashell and other city officials and dignitaries will be on hand. After the two officers are enshrined, plaques will be presented to their families, followed by a 21-gun salute and the sounding of Taps.

The memorial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Idlewild Park in Reno, next to the Rose Garden.
