Public scoping meeting to be held tonight for transfer of Carson Lake

The Bureau of Reclamation will be preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Title Transfer of the Carson Lake and Pasture to the State of Nevada.

As directed through legislation, the purpose of the transfer is to convey the Carson Lake and Pasture to the State of Nevada to be managed as a wildlife area. Reclamation is interested in gathering public comments on the proposed transfer and future management of the area.

The Carson Lake and Pasture is approximately 30,000 acres of pasture and wetlands located eight miles southeast of Fallon. It is currently owned by Reclamation and managed for wildlife habitat and public use under agreement by the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

The Carson Lake and Pasture has been recognized as an important area for wildlife, especially shorebirds and waterfowl, and has been designated a component of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network. The Nevada Department of Wildlife will continue to manage the area for wildlife.

Reclamation is seeking public comments on the proposed transfer and future management of the area at an open house that will be held in:
