The Churchill Community Coalition will host a town hall meeting on Saturday to increase community awareness on the issue of underage drinking.
The coalition hopes to identify how underage drinking affects our community and brainstorm possible solutions. The meeting will provide an opportunity for parents, teachers, community leaders, youth and other community members to voice their concerns and suggest ideas that can help prevent young people from using alcohol.
The agenda includes:
Dennis Lee (director of the coalition) presenting community data on underage drinking and introducing a panel of medical experts
De Vere Karlson (chief juvenile probation officer) introducing a questionnaire to elicit information from community members on how to address the problem
Mayor Ken Tedford introducing the new chief of police, Kevin Gehman
A DVD on underage drinking
A panel of medical experts discussing harmful effects of underage drinking and methamphetamine use
Open discussion and questions
The town hall meeting will be in the Multipurpose Building at the Churchill County Fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
