The Churchill County School district will likely be closing one of its school sites for the upcoming year.
The school district plans to close the Lahontan Valley High School building and have students who currently attend the Old High School take their classes at Churchill County High School next year.
The LVHS students would be housed in a vocational educational building away from other high schoolers.
Superintendent Carolyn Ross said the closing of the LVHS site is an administrative decision she makes and a policy that could save the district around $250,000 a year.
The vocational educational building, she said, is big enough to house the 120 LVHS students and its staff.
"This is an opportunity to expand education offerings to Lahontan Valley High School students," the superintendent said. "The school would merge on to the (high school), but it would be different."
The plan, she said, would keep most of the LVHS staff and the principal, but added she believes there will be a savings in personnel.
Ross said the principals at the two schools would work together to smooth out the logistics.
While the moving of the school is mostly a financial issue, the alternative high-school students would benefit with more resources.
Another issue is the poor condition of the Old High School. Ross said major repairs may have to be made there, which would make teaching students very difficult.
"I have input, and its a difficult and emotional decision for the staff and students, but we are in strange times," Ross said. "It has to be a change process, and change is not easy."
