John Edward Lang
A native of Lovelock, Nev., John E. Lang was born to George and Josephine Lang on June 28, 1914.
Raised in Lovelock, he graduated from Pershing County High School in 1932 where he played football, basketball and tennis. Under a tennis scholarship John attended and graduated from University of San Francisco with the class of 1938.
During WWII he served overseas, Gold Coast, Africa, in the Air Force and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In 1940 John married Geraldine O'Connor of San Francisco, deceased in 1974, and settled in Lovelock to raise their four children, Richard, Barbara, Virginia, and Patricia. After the death of his wife he married Evangeline Rubianes of Fallon, Nev. who preceded his death in 1998.
In Lovelock, John became well known as a business owner by participating in his father's business and later partnering with Joe Patricio in Lang and Patricio Plumbing and Sheet Metal.
His service to the community was extensive by sitting on the city council, later becoming mayor, and more than 70 years as a member of Lovelock Fraternal Order of Eagles Aries #1557, during which time he became Nevada State president and was the Order's state treasurer for 30 years.
Surviving him are his four children, Richard Lang of Puyallup, Wash.; Barbara Klare of Paho, Hawaii; Virginia Lang of Lovelock; and Patricia Miller of Sacramento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Rosary for John Lang will be held at the Lovelock Funeral Home, 655 11th Street, Lovelock, at 7 p.m., Wednesday and funeral services are to be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, 1045 Franklin Street, Lovelock.
