Anson Thurman
Anson Thurman surrendered his life on March 15, 2008, at the age of 71 from a long and courageous illness. Anson was born on Sept. 11, 1936 in El Rio, Okla., the oldest son of Homer and SerRena Thurman.
Anson moved to Fallon in 1961 in pursuit of what was to become a long and colorful rodeo career lasting almost 60 years. Anson was a member of the Senior Professional Rodeo Association, United States Team Roping Association and Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
Anson is survived by his brothers and sisters, DeMar Thurman of Fallon and Larry Thurman Of Dewey, Okla., Patricia Gumbmann of Burney, Calif., and Sherry (her husband Martin) Alberson of Newcastle, Wyo., and children, Syd Thurman, Terry Lee Thurman, Jody Branco and Patty Yandel, several cousins, grandchildren, nieces, nephews. His parents and two children, Laurie Thurman and David Thurman, precede him in death.
"In death may we only remember the good deeds that was left by us"... Those who knew him and appreciated his character will dearly miss Anson.
Anyone wishing to make a donation in Anson's memory and for the many hours he spent encouraging, teaching, and couching young rodeo contestants, an Anson Thurman Memorial Rodeo Scholarship fund has been established with First Independent Bank of Nevada, Fallon.
