A Fallon man died Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash at the intersection of Crook Road and U.S. Highway 50.
According to a release from the Nevada Highway Patrol, Russell Armstrong, 64, of Fallon, was driving a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle westbound on Highway 50. Elvira Detiveaux, 41, of McAllen, Texas, a security officer at NAS Fallon, was stopped facing south at the intersection of the highway with Crook Road in a 2005 Ford Expedition.
Detiveaux failed to observe the motorcycle and turned southbound into the intersection, in front of the motorcycle's path. The front of the motorcycle struck the left side of the Ford, ejecting Armstrong.
He was transported to Banner Churchill Community Hospital and later pronounced deceased. Detiveaux was not injured in the crash.
Nevada Department of Public Safety Public Relations Officer Joe Winchester said the incident and information has been forwarded to the district attorney's office for possible charges.
Detiveaux, Winchester said, was not cited at the scene, and added the location of the collision is a good area with a lot of room for traffic flow.
The preliminary investigation, he said, revealed that Detiveaux failed to observe Armstrong before pulling out in front of him.
Since a fatality occurred in the collision, Detiveaux could face harsher penalties if she is charged and found guilty of a traffic violation.
"It depends on the facts of the investigation. The district attorney decides which ones it wants to utilize," Winchester said.
Alcohol involvement is not suspected in the crash, according to NHP. Detiveaux was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.
