Nevada-OSU game to be televised

RENO - Nevada basketball fans will be happy to know that at least 11 games - nine on the road and two at home - will be televised.

The total could reach 12 if Nevada's BracketBuster game makes the airwaves, and it's a good bet that will happen.

The road game at Oregon State tonight (7 p.m.) will be shown by KREN. The local network also will show road games at Santa Clara (Nov. 25), Akron (Dec. 22), Hawaii (Jan. 13), New Mexico State (Jan. 20), Fresno State (Feb. 8) and Utah State (March 1).

The Pack will appear on ESPN2 three times. The first broadcast is the Dec. 30 game in Seattle against Gonzaga at 3 p.m. The cable giant also will show the Feb. 3 game against Hawaii at 5 p.m. and the regular-season finale against New Mexico State (March 3) at 7:05 p.m.

The Nevada-Cal game, which is part of the Pete Newell Challenge in San Jose on Dec. 3 is being shown on College Sports TV. The game will tip off at 6 p.m.

Fans can also watch any of the games on www.wac.tv for a small fee.

The first road trip

Today is the Pack's first road trip, and Fox may have to coach his new players off the court as well.

"I'll tell them what to pack, what to wear for the shootaround," Fox said. "I remember Kirk Snyder didn't really know that we practiced on the road. These players don't know anything about travel at this level."

The Pack will no doubt enjoy traveling by plane instead of bus, and the enjoyment will be more when they charter to road games, bypassing the long lines at the airports.

Fazekas said he's looking forward to the trip.

"It's exciting to get back on the road again," he said. "It's fun. Nothing but basketball. It will be a great experience."

Burleson's homecoming

Wednesday will be a homecoming of sorts for Burleson, who grew up in the Seattle area, just a short distance away from Corvallis.

"It's going to be fun," Burleson said. "I think my parents are going to come. I've been looking forward to it."

Burleson also played against Oregon State's Seth and Josh Tarver when he was in high school.

Weekly polls

Nevada claims that it doesn't pay attention to the weekly polls during the season, but the Pack certainly welcomes the attention they get from the national media.

After an impressive season-opening win over Alaska-Anchorage last Friday night, Nevada moved from No. 25 to No. 23 in the USA Today poll which is voted by coaches, and stayed at No. 24 in the Associated Press poll.

Coach Mark Fox said he didn't realize Nevada had moved up until a reporter asked reserve guard Lyndale Burleson about it.

"There are still lots of games to play," Fox said. "I'm more concerned where we end up than where we begin."

"It definitely helps to get recognition," All-American forward Nick Fazekas said.

Fazekas added that the players don't worry about the polls or watch them much during the season.

A third poll, CBS Sportsline, also has the Pack ranked in the top 25.

Bracketology, already?

ESPN Bracketology is Joe Lunardi's life. The ESPN analyst has already started his predictions for this year's NCAA Tournament.

The Pack has already been awarded a fifth seed and will play No. 12 Wichita State of the Missouri Valley Conference in a first-round game in Spokane.

Considering nobody has played more than three games, it's probably a bit early for the projections.

It does make for interesting conversation throughout the season.
