Woman charged with 33 credit card felonies

Print Comment
A Fallon woman accused of committing 33 felonies with a stolen credit card was taken into custody Tuesday and booked into the Churchill County Jail.

Tina Marie Walton, 36, is suspected of stealing a credit card from the 200 block of East Ferguson Street on Dec. 31 and using it at businesses all over town.

She is also accused of stealing a check made payable to Kent's Real Estate Development last April and cashing it at a local casino.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Churchill County Justice Court, Walton allegedly used Ronald Baker's credit card 17 times between Dec. 31 and Jan. 3 to purchase merchandise from Fox Peak, Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, Sandy's Fashions, Speedway, Stockman's Casino, the Bonanza and Union 76.

Fallon Assistant Police Chief Ray Dolan said detectives have pursued three separate cases against Walton recently on alleged crimes that go back to July 2004.

"One of these cases is where she took some of her mother's blank checks and forged her mother's signature and tried to cash them," Dolan said.

He said the credit card case Walton was jailed on this week involved a man who was acting as a good Samaritan.

"She went to an individual's house on Ferguson Street and said her vehicle broke down and asked to use the phone," said Dolan. "While he was out of the room, she stole one of his credit cards."

He said Walton charged more than $3,000 on the card during a three-day spending spree.

She is also accused of taking a check that George Machado put in a mail slot to pay Kent's Real Estate Development for parking. Dolan said Machado rents parking spaces near his Overland Hotel and Saloon from Bob Kent.

Warrants were signed by Justice of the Peace Dan Ward on Tuesday accusing Walton of 17 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, 15 counts of forgery, grand larceny and two counts of possession of stolen property. Walton's bail was set at $120,132.

Walton pleaded guilty March 8 to three counts of forgery connected to the July case involving her mother's checks. She was released from jail on her own recognizance and is scheduled for sentencing on Tuesday. She faces one to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine on each count.
